In May of 2018, Austin and I bought out first home. We were blessed be to able to build and design it the way we wanted (for the most part), since the whole neighborhood was new construction. What a fun process! Although, I have never had any experience designing or building anything, it was such a fun learning process. Thank goodness for Pinterest!

The Design
Our “theme” for the house was “Modern/Farmhouse” style. Lots of whites, greys with some rustic wood hints. We knew over time we wanted to purchase new furniture and decor to make the house flow with our theme. My first priority was the living room space, since that is where we (and our guests) spend most of our time. After living with some old furniture for a little while, we decided to finally purchase a new couch and love seat (Ashley Furniture: most pillows shown came with the couch and loveseat), so that Austin and I had more space to lounge while watching our nightly shows ;). With the back door to the left of the ottomans, it didn’t make much sense for us to keep a big chair in that space like we had before, since it blocked the door way. So, I grabbed these cute little ottomans from Target that also have storage space underneath.

With the couch in place against the wall, we decided to do a little picture collage above it. Keeping it in line with our theme, I grabbed each of these frames and the “Hello” sign from Hobby Lobby. They have the best frames and wall decor for such great prices. Hard to pass up! I had seen this pouf over and over and just needed to have it. My original plan was to put it in the baby’s nursery, but for now, we have kept it down stairs and it seems to work perfectly in the living room.

Our whole living room, dining room, kitchen space is one big open concept, so it took me a little bit of time to decide how I wanted to space everything out. The black shelves behind the kitchen table seemed to be a great addition to our extremely long wall (Crate and Barrel) and also helped tie in some darker tones in such a light space.
This is just a quick peak into our living room space. Over time we would love to add a new coffee table or circular ottoman in the center and even get a new living room rug. One thing at a time, right?
